Funds provided from PHINS will be earmarked to support three caregiver programs.
They are:
Dealing with Dementia - a 5-hour workshop appropriate for anyone who is caring for a person living with dementia. Topics include: understanding the basics of dementia (what is going on and why), managing a care receiver's challenging behaviors, learning to cope with and handle stress, and the importance of self-care (put your own oxygen mask on first).
Powerful Tools for Caregivers - a 6-week workshop that meets once per week for two hours each session. This class focuses on supporting the caregiver in their role, addresses self-care issues, helps caregivers identify and reduce personal stress, communicate feelings, needs and concerns, communicate in challenging situations, learn from their emotions, and master caregiver decisions. Over the course of the 6 weeks 35 tools are discussed and practiced by participants. Most report a significant, sometimes life changing ability to accept and thrive in their role as a care partner.
Caregiver Connections - This program is under development. When it begins, it will meet once per month for two and 1/2 hours. Each session will start with a mix and mingle activity, followed by a planned group activity which promotes stress reduction, social interaction and fun; and conclude with a small group session for discussion and training on a variety of topics
Mix and mingle activities will be achieved using a game like, Would You Rather, Fun Fact Bingo, Have you Ever...etc.
Planned activities might include: Photo scavenger hunt in teams, Picnic with group games, Special guest musical performance, Chair yoga, Sing-along...etc
Discussion and training groups will address topics like: When did I stop being a spouse - my changing role. Caregiving skills for living at home. Hiring in-home help. Driving issues...etc
These classes are free thanks to your
generous support and Phins To The West.
